A fire salamander (Salamandra salamandra) rests partly concealed behind a woodland mushroom on a lush moss-covered surface in its natural forest habitat in Slovakia. The salamander's head and front part of the body remain visible above and beside the mushroom while the animal stays motionless throughout the sequence. Subtle rhythmic throat movements associated with breathing provide the only visible movement, while the surrounding moss creates a detailed view of the moist woodland microhabitat.
