A smooth snake (Coronella austriaca) moves slowly across a moss-covered rock among fallen autumn leaves in Slovakia in late October. The snake crawls forward over the textured surface while the rear part of its body remains partly concealed beneath the surrounding leaf litter. A visible abnormality affects the snake's right eye. Filmed on 25 October, the sequence documents an individual still active in its natural habitat relatively late in the autumn season.
