Footage description
An adult tawny owl (Strix aluco) rests deep inside its natural nest cavity in a large old willow tree during an early stage of the breeding season. Filmed from a slightly more lateral angle, the owl remains almost completely concealed within the spacious hollow, with only a small part of its head visible above the lower edge of the cavity. Recorded six days before later observations of the adult in the same nest, this footage documents its discreet and sustained use of the natural tree cavity during the breeding period.
